I finally installed my reverse indiglo's, but I tapped the dimmer wire...no problem?

I've gotten mixed opinions about which to tap, the red, or the red/black. So I tapped the red. The gauges work great, but they're affected by the dimmer control, which doesn't bother me, but that won't cause any problems, right? It's still a straight 12v? BTW I seem to be getting that humming that some people get, it's a resistor that should help this issue, correct?

Another quick question for anyone who cares What did you do to make your gauge needles show up against the dark rev. indiglo background at night? They don't light up in the accord (it relies on that stupid overhead lighting system in the top of the cluster, which I took out) so I can barely see them.
