2000 Burning Crazy amounts of oil!

So I was driving my 2000 Passat pretty hard last week down the highway. I was on the way to the bank and when I pulled up to the teller I noticed that a big White cloud of smoke was accumulating behind my car. The longer I was in idle the bigger the smoke cloud got. When I left the teller the cloud disappereared and nothing came out of the exhaust when I was moving. It has been about a week now and everytime I pull up to a stop sign or light the smoke cloud starts to form. I reiterate to you that the smoke STOPS when I accelerate and only forms when I idle for more than 15 sec. If I drive for 15 min and pull into the garage, once I put it in Park the smoke cloud seems to grow faster than when I am in drive with my foot on the brake. The problem is getting worse!! When I leave my car I can smell a stench of burning oil coming from my exaust and the inside of my car smells like burnt brown sugar. I checked my oil 4-5 days ago and it was empty, I refilled it with 2 quarts and have checked it everyday, and the oill level seems to stay the same,

Anyone know the problem and does anyone know how much the damn thing will cost to get fixed

Re: 2000 Burning Crazy amounts of oil!

Sorry to tell you, your turbo is going bad or it is already bad. Oil is used to lubricate bearings, and antifreeze (smeel of burned sugar--glycol) is to cool them down. When internal seal is broken then some or all of it is going into exhaust.

It is working properly if engine is running; when you shut the car down while "zooming" then the rpm on turbo is high, but there is no lubrication/cooling then problems accumulate. Idling engine for 1-5min before shutting it down is a good practice.

Also, thet's why synthetic oil is a MUST because of higher breaking point of viscosity.

How many miles on your car and what kind of oil is used (if petroleum based then you possibly can have potential for sludge)?

How many miles is in your car,
