I just bought a 2002 crew cab 4x4 and I have noticed that it gets EXTREMELY hot under the hood after just running for a few minutes.... I'm talking burn your hand when you open the hood hot..... I was just wondering if this is a normal thing with the 4.3L?

You really aren't suposed to ask the same questions on both the Chevy forum and the GMC forum.
You'll probably get the same answer on either forum.

The answer to your question is NO, these motors don't get that hot.
You might want to get teh Fan Clutch checked. Flush the cooling system.
And of course flush the transmission and change the filter. I'll tell you how to change that oil where you asked.
You will also want to change the oil, and I sugest doing a good tune up.

A tune up will probably take care of your hesitation problem.

Back To Your Question Though, Also Replace Your Tstat. On My 84 S10, I Had The Problem Of It Heating Up Real Bad, And I Was Told To Replace The Tstat. When I Pulled Off The Rad Hose, I Found It Had No Tstat At All(bought It In Southern Il)! Put It In And Found It Working Much Better
