Need quick exhaust help on 00' GTP

hi guys,

i need to replace my catalytic convertor as it seems it has broken up and is making some horrible noises.

anyways, i need either an exhaust diagram or a quick answer.

instead of paying a large chunk of money to have the cat replaced i was looking at the testpipe that zzperformance sells. http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...ts1.php?id=523

i need to know if that replaces the only cat in the system, therefore no other pre-cat or another cat in the header section of the exhaust. some cars like my Z have pre-cats. i just want to make sure this part will fix my problem and not waste my money. i need to get this car sounding good again as chea as possible beings i will be selling it soon. it already has a cat-back exhaust so noise is not a concern.

thanks in advance...

First before you go replacing the cat with a test pipe you need to be sure that you have no emmisions testing. They will check for that cat. If you do then you either need to replace the cat or if you can pass without it then remove it and gut it then put it back on so it is visibly there. Stock cats have dropped drastically in price compared to even 10 years ago, so replacing it should not be nearly as expensive.

You can also purchase a high flow cat from magnaflow for about $80. It will improve performance as well as cost a lot less than stock. I have one, it works great and it's legal.

Was that with installation Lynn? I have a Magnaflow Hi-Flow with the 2.5 in/outlets and it cost me $55 with shipping. I hope you didn't pay too much.

Did you ever get the header install completed?

Re: Need quick exhaust help on 00' GTP

well i ended up getting a high flow cat installed at a local exhaust shop.

thanks for your guys help.

and no, i dont have emissions testing here where i live. if i did i would be in trouble with my Z32. straight through exhaust w/ mufflers only, EGR delete, etc.

btw: anyone in the chicagoland area interested in a 2 door black GTP with 85k miles on it. PM me...i will be selling mine in less than a couple months. it is spotless in and out.

Re: Need quick exhaust help on 00' GTP

Sure did Bob!! I used a 3" cat instead of a 2.5 cost a little more. Just put
$6K into a ram air hood, new front valance, new spoiler, shaved all door handles, locks and rear antenna. Also shaved the license plate cover on the front bumper. Pontiac is still there but the openings are gone. Put new wheels, z rated tires, clear corners and a paint job on the car. Looks great. I still need some new tails to make it complete. Painted it Inferno Red with silver flames. Looks great but needs inspected. I have to put in a new front wheel bearing and a new radiator hose before I can put it back on the road. Just don't have enough time to get it done. I will post some pics later.

Sounds awesome Lynn. Nice to see the end product when you are finished.

I installed SLP 1.8 roller rockers and pushrods this Spring along with a custom programmed Intense PCM. New ET = 12.814 @ 107 mph.

You think if I add the silver flames it would help. Just kidding...lol.

Possibly!! They may not help the ET but they make it look faster just sitting still!

If it looks fast it must be fast. This was my favorite Lynn. Courtesy of Jim (KustomKid54), rip.

It is unfortunate that such genius left this world so early! I bet he has the fastest GTX to ever hit the Eternal Dragway!
