Cool 1990 Chev Sport 305CID Short Box Missing Too!

My recently purchased Chev Sport with a 305 cid is missing badly after it warms up. I tried tunimg it up, new EGR valve and was contemplating a cam issue. How can I tell for sure I have a cam issue? (flat spots)
Thanks

My oppinion on cam failure is if its not tapping or having to be adjusted to stop valve noise the cam is alright. A wiped out cam leads to increased valve lash that you will hear and know there is a problem. Also a cam doesn't know or care whether the engine is warm or hot so chances are if it just skips when hot its not the cam. My guess would be wires, cap, rotor button, plugs, maybe even ignition module, fuel filter, and the list could go on.....

If you want to check the cam for a bad lobe, pull the valve covers and the coil wire and watch each lifter as some one turns over the motor. Dont run the motor because oil will spray every where. If one lifter doesn't move or barly moves then the cam , lifters or pushrod could be bad. You could also check the modual in the distibutor, buy taking the modual to a auto store and asking the to test it. Good luck.

Is the miss only when it is warm?

Things to check:
- Engine Coolant Temp Sensor
- Pickup Coil (inside dist)
- Ignition Coil
- MAP Vacuum
- Ignition Timing
- Dist gear and bushings (try to move rotor side to side with cap off)
- Leaking injectors
