Opinions

Hey there. There is a nice 1987 NA 944S for sale in my town and Ive been eyeballing it. Im currently driving a 97 VW Passat GLX with a VR-6.

What can you guys tell me about a 944S? Would a 944 be a nice car for me? Is my Passat better? My VW is pretty fast, is it faster than the 944S?

thanks for any tips you guys can give me.. I really love the looks of a 944 and I'm dying to get an RWD car. haha

Re: Opinions

It’s kind of funny because my friend has the same car as you. So I know your car pretty well. The 944S is a great little car and will probably feel pretty quick compared to your VR6. It has less hp but because its lighter and probably sportier gear it will feel quicker and more agile. Now I have a 944 turbo so its hard for me to say if a NA 944 would REALLY be faster but, my other friend has a 1990 325i BMW which is pretty close to a NA 944 numbers wise and he beats my other friends VR6 from a dig. However I have never seen them go from a roll in which case the VR6 MIGHT be faster. Even then though I still think the Bimmer might win. So based on all of that I would say yea the 944S is probably faster. However the best thing about the 944S is it’s handling, which will be worlds better than the VR6. I mean your comparing a sedan to a real sports car here. I think you would be very happy with a 944S. The only down side I see is your moving to a sports car which will have less room. If that matters to you. The other thing is if you want a lot of power there isn’t a lot you can do with the stock NA 944 engine. However their are tons of swaps you can do like LS1's, LT1, Rotary swaps, SR20DET, etc... Or just swap in a motor from a 951. So I say go for it!

Re: Opinions

thanks for the info.

hahaha. the thing about less room... tht just what im looking for really. Im tired of the questions "Hey can you give me a ride?"

now I can finally say "NO!" and it wont just be because Im a dick.. its cuz i have 2 seats.

Im really hoping I can get this 944, it really has everything I want in a car... RWD, 5 speed, coupe. plus, it performs while still not being as "nice" looking as my VW... while the 944 looks really nice, it doesnt look all luxury, so little scatches ad stuff wouldnt ruin my day like they do now. hahaha
