1966 Beetle origin search

I have a 1966 beetle and tried to trace it's origins via it's VIN #, however I can't find a history on 116-4407730 or on it's engine # OIL19920226E. The thing that gets me is this:
1. It does not have a South African built chassis/pan (multiple ribs instead of the usualy 7 or 9 rib)
2. There's no referrencing to anything denoting in english, all in german.
3. It's fitted with the oil bath aircleaner.
4. The drivers side consol only has 1 small dashboard vent, not many like S.A. beetles had.

I have tried to compare the car to other German (closest relative) aswell as South American marques but I don't get quite a convincing picture. Did Wolfsburg produce right hand drive beetles for overseas markets?

The problem with the current VIN system is that it doesn't go as far as 1966, does anyone know where the version for older vehicles might be?

Apart from that the car is a joy to drive!!!
Any help or reference would be appreciated ...

Thanks
