69 baja won't start

I bought a 1969 baja about a week ago for $1000 us. Driving it home from school downhill it ran fine, even up short hills that were quite steep. It over-heated coming back up the hill on my return to school. I noticied it wasnt performing well (wouldnt get over 45 in third gear) but thought this may be normal for a 69 bug. The first time it died, i let it sit, checked the oil, eventually got it to start, and continued on my journey. the second time, i couldnt start it with the key, so i push started it down the hill i was trying to make it up, it died again on the same hill, but the second time i tried to do the same thing, and instead of the engine starting when i let out the clutch, it locked up, like i was pressing the brake. It wont even jump start now, and when i turn the key it just clicks once. Any ideas??

You're toast.

Overheating is the death blow to an air-cooled engine. It's seized. New engine or a complete re-build, if the block isn't fried.

yeah, that is possible, but i'm not exactly sure...
it would roll start five minutes before it wouldnt...
if the belt will move then the engine should be ok right?

Re: 69 baja won't start

i think it might have locked up because u popped the clutch in 1st gear makes sure its in second or third when u push start it.
If it is your engine buy a new one fast, brazil isn't making cases anymore.
