Lightbulb tiny lights around distributor when sprayed with saltwater

I sprayed salt water on my distributor tonight and saw tiny glowing lights...the brightest one was where the wire coming from the coil. Is this normal or should I not be seeing any lights? Would dielectric grease help?

p.s. the lights weren't big sparks just tiny glowing specks.

Thanks.

Re: tiny lights around distributor when sprayed with saltwater

That is what mine did when my coil and cap were bad. There were small cracks in both. In my case, when it rained or was damp, my vehilce would missfire and not start, replaced them, and all is now good. I tested mine by spraying water at the cap and coil. I did this at night so I could see any arking more easily. There was LOTS of acking. New coil and cap, now vehicle runs great.

Make sure you test the new parts the same way. I learned this the hard way. Replaced cap and coil with new ones (Delco Parts). The next time it rained my vehicle died. Tested again with plant mister and water to see it the wires might also be bad. It ended up that the niw coil and cap were both cracked. I was not happy.
