Question wet no start

I have a 2002 Safari with 63.000km on the odometer. It has been a great ride until now . May showers means no start. When damp, it turns over but will not start. Almost feels as if timing goes off. Any clues?

Re: wet no start

.

Could be bad plug wires, bad plug caps, bad distributor, etc.

When it goes run again, you can check these parts yourself. At night, start the engine, let it idle and with a garden hose on a sprinkler stream, spray the engine. Start from the bottom of the engine and move upwards (on each side of the engine). If a moisture "entry" problem in these parts, it will start to idle very rough and if lucky, you'll see small sparking across the wet area. If wondering, this is how my auto mechanic checks for bad plug wires / bad plug caps on our Safari. Works for him....

And yes, you could have bad plug wires &/or bad plug caps - even at this low of miles. Especially if you live in a hot climate. Heat makes rubber turn hard. When its hard, the wire moves and it creates cracks - on the outer wire protection shief. These cracks allow moisture to enter and thus, electrical nature starting and rough idle problems.

Hope this idea helps....
