High pitch whiningInUrHead 05-11-2006, 12:23 AM Could use some help here... Got a 99 trooper, just got the motor all assembled. Had some trouble with the starter, but for the most part, managed to piece together a vehicle I didn't take apart. Now there's a LOUD, HIGH PITCH whining, bad enough to make your head hurt. It seems to be vacuum, or rotating assembly because it follws the rpms. If it was my vehicle, I'd just spin it up to 4-5K rpms and see if it cuts out. Unfortunately it's not, so i'm trying to see if anyone's come across this before. I've checked all the vaccum lines I can see, but I can't remember if there was anymore under or behind the intake. I'm also not sure if the secondaries in the intake are supposed to do this, but they're open all the time. As soon as the key turns, the secondary controler (throttle looking lever on the back of the intake) opens all the way. (Could be wrong, that could be closing it, I forgot to check when the intake was apart.) Anyways, could use help ASAP, trying to have this running tonight or tommorow morning. Thanks. InUrHead 05-11-2006, 03:56 AM Problem fixed, upper section of common plenum appears to be *slightly* out of true, making gasket not seal. Sprayed around the gasketed section with carb cleaner, when it soaked up a bit of liquid and sealed, the whine went away. Going to either double stack the gasket and add 4lb-ft of tourque to it, or gaska-cinch it in the AM. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
