I own a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo and I recently put 3.73 gears in the rear end. Now I have a major wheel hop problem. I wonder if anyone out there would be able to give me suggestions on how to fix this problem. I am presently having my motor rebuilt and will have 450 horsepower when all is said and done and I would like to be able to use it when I want to. I would appreciate any suggestions.:sun:

Don't they have something called anti-tramp bars? I'm not sure if they're fitted as standard or if they eliminate the problem totally.

You need ladder bars installed on your rear axle. The are place under the car, more specifically, they attach from the axle to the chassis of the car. Your car is pushing a lot of torque and the axle alone can't manage it. Inquire about that and let me know. Also, you might want to invest in a newer suspension if you haven't already done so.

I have a 1972 Monte with the original 402 BB that has been modified somewhat and dynoed at 506 horsepower and 490 lb/ft of torque. Originally it had 2.73 gears with an open diff.When I installed the 402 after building it and ran it with the above rear diff combination it would sit and spin the one wheel with no wheel hop whatsoever. I purchased an Auburn Limited Slip diff and richmond 4.10 gears and with this diff combination installed wheel hop was so severe that it literally destroyed my exhaust system from the headers back.

The two thing I did to cure this was to set the car back to it's original stance (the previous owner had raised the rear end of the car) your control arms that locate the rear axle should be parallel to the ground,or as close as possibl. The second thing I did was to install a set of ladder bars.These are basically rigid brackets that attach to your rear axle to the chassis. With these two improvements my Monte exhibits no wheel hop and hooks off the line like nothing I've ever felt before.

I have had the same problem with my 80 Monte .What I did was put ladder bar and air shocks on it and problem was solved.Now it hooks up and goes with no problem.I don't have a bb.But I do have a strong 406.
