will newer 2.2 and trans fit in 87 rs conv?

newbie!
I just acquired another 87 convertable.
it has a bad 2.8 liter auto
I want a 4 cyl stick to put in it(gas prices)
will a newer 2.2 liter engine and trans bolt in?
I found a newer (91) donor car
any info would be great

Sure it will fit,however there is a difference in one of the frame rails for manual trans/auto trans cars,and all your electronics will need to be changed.

I guess I need to know if the trans bolt patterns for a 87 2.8 are the same as a 2.2 liter from a newer car?
if I only need to swap engines that would help alot
I could do the manual/auto switch at a later time
I know the 87 came with a 2.0 or a 2.8 so i know those bolt patterns are the same, are the 2.2?
