Hi,
I'm new here. I have a 1979 chevy impala that i'm restoring now. i was workong on the engine, when i have noticed those things:

The first one is this orange box, with connectors inside it, that are numberd from one to 8 (i think...), it's not connected to anything. its lockated on the front left fender, and it looks original.

The second, is this relay-like thing, that connected to god-knows-what,
it looks like its been installed here in israel, (did i mentioned that i'm from Israel allready?) but again, i dont know. Its lockated near the left head lights.

Can somebody please tell me what the things above are?

Thank you,
Dima.

Before you bury yourself with this car get a factory shop manual try e bay. The orange box is a power distribution center, the other unit is an add on for maybe an alarm at one time, not an oe part.

i tryed to find a factory shop manual on e-bay, it's useless. there isn't non of them for sale.

Try oe Helms, made them originally or try Hemmings Magazine.

Was the car ever used as a police or taxi vehicle? Both of the parts you show look like aftermarket pieces for powering aftermarket add-ons like police lights/radio or taxi meters/lights, etc....

not as far as i know... i'm the 8th owner of this car (and i hope to be the last... ;-) ) it was allways brown- not a tipical color for a taxi/ police car.
The registration documents says all the owners of the car were privet.

update: the humbers on the yellow box are from one to ten, only one of them is - the rest are +. i think that this thing is some kind of premitive diagnostic to the electrical sistem.

Plus is the battery input, minus are the circuits being fed, take the cover off and confirm with test lite.
