I have a 70 vette, L46 350/350 with power brakes. The brakes work fine but the pedal engages too close to the floorboard for my tastes. The lines have just been bled. Could it be the power booster? I know the car is loosing some vacuum but haven't located the source.

I haven't checked the pads recently but the car does not get a lot of use and I suspect they have a lot of life left. Thanks in advance.

For a possible cheap and easy fix, replace the check valve at the power booster. That is a great place to lose vacuum, also trace the hose to the intake manifold to make sure it isn't split from age.

Power boosters don't go bad that often, but I do see some fail if the car sits around unused for long periods of time. The check for that is: With the car off, pump the brake pedal to get all the vacuum out of the booster. With your foot on the brake, start the engine up. If the booster is good the pedal will sink noticeably. I kind of doubt if yours is bad, you would have mentioned the rock hard pedal that goes with a bad booster.
