Need to find a 12v wire

Anyone know the location of a 12v ignition(hot when key is on) wire in or near the center cousil? I need to find one for my ebc and I'm not sure what to tap into. I know I could use the cd player acc wire but I'd like to find another wire if possible. Thanks

Re: Need to find a 12v wire

You could hook a wire straight up to the battery but put in a toggle switch to turn it on and off. Sounds a bit rigged but you might be able to make it look cool even with a toggle.

I would never suggest that. Pr, if you can find a wiring shematics of the steering column, there should be an ignition wire you can tap into in there.

Seriously, is there a chance that something could go wrong? I don't know much about the durability of a toggle switch.

The lighter has an ignition power. Use that it should be red or black with red.

First off, it's the most ghetto ass way to ever wire up anything and second, with a direct hook up to the battery, if anything ever happened to the wire between the power source and what it's feeding, you'll always have a hot wire because of no fuse. Yes you could put one in, but it's still not the correct way to wire something up. And he would have to turn it off everytime he got out of the car, otherwise it would drain his battery over time.

I agree that it is ghetto but it was still just a suggestion.

Re: Need to find a 12v wire

ok there is a black and grey one, a blue and grey one(both have their own connectors) and on the same conector there is a black and yellow one and a green and white one. I'm guessing its the black and yellow?

Re: Need to find a 12v wire

you can tap the radio harness, the cig lighter -
if the car came with a factory amp then you have +12v sitting under the passenger seat.

If it was me - id run it to the fues block -

Try find a wiring schematics so you KNOW you got the right one, don't you have a program for that in your school shop?

Re: Need to find a 12v wire

black with yellow should be it. do you have a multimeter to test it with? If not just get a small light bulb and hold one side on the wire and the other on a ground.
