Re: 97 taurus

I'm not too familiar with air injection system issues, make sure the fuse for the electric pump, if that's what you have, is good. check for water or blockage in the pump itself, which isn't good for the pump. looks like if you want to test the system yourself, you will need to be able to run only the pump which would require scan equipment that could do that function. I looked up that code, here's a start if you have an electric pump:

DTC P0411/P1411 indicates Secondary Air not detected. In order to test the pump, it must be capable of driving the HO2S lean.

NOTE:
Some applications have one or two AIR diverter valves.

Possible causes:

-- Electric AIR pump fault.

-- Hose from electric AIR pump blocked.

-- Hose from electric AIR pump leak.

-- AIR bypass solenoid stuck open/closed.

-- AIR bypass solenoid leak/blocked.

l Visually inspect electric AIR pump hoses from the electric AIR pump to the AIR diverter valves.

l Inspect air hose for cracks, binding, obstructions, water or ice.

l Are electric AIR pump hoses OK?

Next set is same code, but for the mechanical pump:

DTC P0411 indicates that Secondary Air is not being diverted when requested.

Possible causes:

-- Vacuum hoses damaged.

-- AIR diverter valve inoperative.

-- AIR pump inoperative.

-- AIR diverter solenoids damaged.

l Visually inspect vacuum lines for disconnects in the AIR system.

l Visually inspect for proper vacuum line routing. Refer to VECI decal.

l Visually inspect AIR pump for broken or loose AIR pump belt. Refer to «HM81» for adjustment/replacement.

l Were any of these conditions found?

I didn't list all the steps for either, too lengthy and or involved.. for the mechanical pump, check all the vacuum lines, belt, etc . there's plenty of good people on here, someone else will chime in.

Re: 97 taurus

is upstream the valve closest to the radiator and is the downstream the rear of the motor near the firewall? Thanks - JT
