Overheating due to passanger side fan?

Well I am hoping you guys can help, Apperently the fan is blowing a fuse and a "modulator" because of the faulty wiring inside the fan motor, The repair place is wanting $1000 for the fan assembly plus labor. I just asked him, "So it's basically a bad fan correct? Yah but, you can't just buy a single fan for the passanger side." Ok wtf? Any input, 97 3.5L intrepid, or a 95 I don't remember, BUt if it is just the fucking fan motor, wouldn't buying a fan from somewhere else and installing it be an ok fix? Wtf is this modulator that he is talking about? Help ASAP, thanks.

Re: Overheating due to passanger side fan?

The fans are actually a special part because they have 2 speed motors on them, simply replacing them with an aftermarket type unit may not do the job because of the 2 speed system. To the best of my knowledge you can't just replace one motor, the whole assembly has to be changed, you might want to see if you can get a replacement at a wrecking yard and just change them.

I don't know what your mechanic is talking about in regards to a "modulator" the speeds of the cooling fans on these cars are controlled by 2 relays in the power distribution box, one for the low speed setting and the other for the high speed setting.

fairly easy though to replace right If I have both fans with everything.... motor etc. it should be just plug and play right

Mexrocket: I had this same problem on 98 Chry Concorde. Not sure how similar. On the Concode there are two fans. I bought pass side at Dodge dealer and installed. Worked fine and not too expensive $110. (I thnk). Install is not easy, but doable. Must disconnect quite a lot ahead of radiator to allow you to pull radiator forward to give room to remove/install fan. I would recommend replacing both fans at once as about 1 year after installing one, the other died. Too big a job not to do both at once. If you look for aftermarket fans, they will tell you all the wrong stuff.
