What sensor was originally removed? And what chip mod?
A throttle body spacer does little or nothing to improve performance on a normally aspirated 3800. On a L67 Supercharged 3800 it helps reduce knock retard when we go to smaller pulley sizes. It accomplishes this by helping to isolate the throttle body from the hot intake which is the supercharger itself. The supercharger gets much hotter than your plastic UIM plenum. Also, the spacer seals off coolant from flowing from the intake to the throttle body. The coolant improves driveability by helping preheat the throttle body.
If you had better performance without the spacer then you might consider removing it and then see if performance is regained.
