'97 Grand Prix Wheel Noise

I Have A Loud humming Noise Coming From The Right Wheel Area.the Noise Only Is Heard When The Wheel Is Spinning And Slows Down As The Car Comes To A Stop. It Is Not Affecting The Way Car Drives Yet.the Noise Will Lessen A Little If The Car Turns In A Certain Direction. The Shaft To The Transmission Seems Loose Compared The Left Side One.i Am Not Sure Sure What Bearing Is Bad Or Where The Problem Is Exactly.

Re: '97 Grand Prix Wheel Noise

Welcome to AF!!

This sounds like a wheel bearing going bad. When the bearing goes bad you will hear the noise you describe. It is possible for it to be worn enough to cause the shaft to be loose. I would get it replaced as soon as possible due to the potential for it to go totally out and leave you stranded.

Re: '97 Grand Prix Wheel Noise

I had the same thing in my '97 two months ago. Sounded like mudgrip tires on pavement. I got some AC Delco wheel hubs from Richtazz and that fixed my problem. There was no play in the old ones and they spun freely by hand once they were off. If you do it yourself, make sure you have some extra 15 and 13 mm sockets. I broke two 15's and one 13 plus a universal, Craftsman and SK brand. I saved over $400 from what the dealer wanted and it took me about 3 hours.

Yep, classic hub bearing failure symptoms. Delcos run $151.00 ea +S/H. you can PM me with your Zip code if you're interesed for a shipping quote. If you decide to buy aftermarket, DO NOT buy Chinese made or White Box generics, as they are GARBAGE. Stick with BCA or PTC brand name, not their cheapo. With hub bearings, you get what you pay for.
