I've read thru the topics concerning the vacuum actuator for the 4WD engagement; however, after removing the transmission/transfer case to repair a broken flywheel/flexplate I have some simple/stoopid questions regarding my '97 AWD Blazer.

1. Is the vacuum port on the transfer case located near the top, rear of the t-case and utilizes a white plastic V (or relaxed L) connector with rubber o-ring seal?

2. For the AWD, should this port be plugged? as the hose exiting the port above is zip tied to the transmission dip stick and has a small bolt plugging the end of the hose just short of the top rear of the engine.

If it is a true AWD it does not have that stuff.
Does it have push button shift on dash?
What does the tag on back of transfer case say/
That sounds more like a vent hose. Is it a plastic valve in the end of it?

Thanks for the reply,

Yes, the the vehicle is suppose to be a true AWD.
No Push Button or other 4wd "shiftiing" device
will need to check tag and report back as I am at work now
Yes, it does appear to be an L-shaped plastic valve - so the hose should NOT be plugged?

It should not be plugged solid.
It should have a little plastic vent valve on the end of it. Some have a plastic cap on the end of valve.
Pop it off the end of hose and see if you can blow threw it. If not clean or replace it.
If it has a bolt in the end of it pitch the bolt and get a vent valve from gm dealer.

Follow up and 2 additional questions.

Transfer case is a Borg Warner 4472.

1. Any reason the t/c vent hose could not be trimmed down to a more manageable length - say 10-12" overall length vs approx. 3' ?

2. For this particular t/c case, should the AllTrack-II synthetic fluid be used instead of the Dexron II ATF?

It would be better to put it back like it was or oem.
They make it long so you can get it up higher. Less dust and dirt and chance of it blowing out vent.
Mr Mitchell says dexron 111 for the 4472 transfer case.
But always check owners manual and or what the dealer calls for.
What does it have in it now?

thanks for the quick replies MT-2500!

ok, i'll keep the stock length and attempt to tie-wrap back to the trans dip stick tube
drained Dexron ATF from transfer case prior to removal, so that's what will go back in!
