Coolant LeakRick454 04-12-2006, 02:30 PM Coolant leak on 92 taurus, 3.8, 12v. Leak is coming from the block and dripping to the transmission housing area. I first thought it was a head gasket wich I replaced several months ago. I bought new head bolts and retorqued, the leak was still there. I pulled the rear head and can pour water directly into the block (coolant area) and the leak persist. It does not appear to be coming from the freeze plugs, but since the leak is coming from the rear part of the block (near the firewall) the trans axle is in the way to get a clear view. My worst fear is the the block has a small crack on the outer wall. Any suggestion before I pull the engine?????? Thanks shorod 04-12-2006, 06:53 PM Use ultraviolet (UV) dye for the cooling system in the water/coolant. Once you experience the leak (hopefully you'll have the car in a garage or other dark area) use a black light and inspection mirror to determine where the leak is coming from. -Rod Rick454 04-13-2006, 02:10 PM Thanks Rod, I have never seen the dye in automotive stores but then again I was not looking, where can you get it at? Thanks Again Rick454 04-13-2006, 02:41 PM Never mind I found it on Napa's website... Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
