No shifting in to O/D

2000 GTP - been shifting fine... last Thursday - I noticed its not hitting O/D driving home from work. 1-2 is ok, 2-3 is ok... seems like the lockup in 3 is there... but it never does the last shift & lockup like it always has.

To be more descriptive... in "D" - driving down te road... like at 70 mph - if i slide it back into "3" - the rpms go up maybe 200... but I think thats the trans just unlocking the torque convertor.

I'm thinking its a bad solenoid - but I've not had any experience with them. Has anyone else had this happen or know what to look for? 23 MPG is not fun when it used to get 28 or better. Also dont like running at 3k+ down the freeway. 2200 is what it was.

Oh - its got like 130k on it and I've kept up with fluid changes.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm gonna try to grab a service manual this week for it.

Thanks much,

Robb.

Re: No shifting in to O/D

It could be valve body related and the 3-4 shift solenoid. You might consider getting it scanned with a trans capable scanner and see what DTC error codes are stored, if any.

In a worse case situation it could be mechanical such as the 4th clutch or spline.

Definitely not good news.
