Coolant Hoses on Oil Filter hosinglougheed 04-09-2006, 04:59 PM 1991 GT 238,000 miles I've been fighting the infamous "why won't my engine warm up" problem and in the process put stop leak in the engine('cause i thought maybe leaking head gaslet, stupid but desperate) which turned into my engine is over heating problem. So, I've torn my engine apart, pulled the head, heater core, radiator, and flushed everything and really found no problems. Now, I’ve gotten to the hoses by the oil filter, and when I try to flush water through the two hoses nothing flows. I have a lot of questions: what is that assembly for? And what is it called? Is it easily removed and where do i get a new one? Any help is appreciated KimMG 04-14-2006, 03:03 AM Which motor do you have? Can you post a picture? Usually when a motor doesn't warm up, it is because the thermostat is stuck open. Did you replace the thermostat? lougheed 04-14-2006, 09:14 AM I replaced the thermostat and tested both the old one and the new one in hot water, and they both worked. I have the 1.8L engine. KimMG 04-17-2006, 02:42 AM On the stove, the thermostat is opening when it should. New question, is the temp sensor for the guage good? How do you know the motor is not warming up? Remove the temp sensor and see if there is a lot of crud that may be insulating it from the coolant. Were you losing coolant before you put stop leak in? lougheed 04-17-2006, 08:38 PM I thought about the temperature sender and gauge, but before the stop leak, the engine would warm up to normal temperature at idle and the fan would cycle on and off normally. Also while at idle, heat would come out of the heater. But as soon as startede driving down the street or increase the RPMs to 2000 while stationary, the temperature guage starts dropping and temperature of the heat coming out of the heater drops. I was losing coolant before the stop leak, but there wasn't any on the driveway, so that's why I was thinking head gasket and the coolant was being combusted. lougheed 04-17-2006, 09:17 PM I have a picture of the coolant hoses going to the oil filter housing. Any help is appreciated if you replaced the thermostat than you wont be able to run water through the block, because the water isnt hot enough to open the thermostat lougheed 04-24-2006, 09:21 AM Flushing the block was done without the thermostat installed, and most all hoses disconnected on at least one end. The only section that doesn't flow water is the two hoses going into something where the oil filter screws into.
