I need to ask what the MAJOR PROBLEMS are of dropping a 2.3 DOHC (93 model) into a 95 Grand Am with a blown up Quad4. Is it only an issue of changing the intake and exhaust manifolds from the quad4 onto the DOHC and keeping the 95 computer and wiring harness? HELP!!!!!

Sorry. Its a 93 OHC going in the place of a 95 Quad4 DOHC

Too much trouble. Go back to the original engine. Less work and the quad makes more power. If you are having trouble finding one look at car-part.com or cherry-auto.com.

There is a FUNDING issue with buying another engine. I have 2 Grand Ams and wanna make one. What KIND of issues can I expect?

A friend of mine that works at a service dept says it's a straight swap with the addition af a wiring harness adapter. Computers will work fine. I'm going off his word based on his looking up the swap on his system. Does this sound right? I imagine the harness pigtail is available considering cars in 95 came with both the 2.3 OHC and 2.3 Quad4

Anything is possible. If GM has the wiring harness adapter available then they must have set the car up so they could use both engines without having to have a number of seperate parts. Although the sohc engine probably doesn't have the power of the dohc but if that is what you have then go for it. Let me know how it turns out.

The sohc engine doesn't make anywhere near the power of the dohc. The '95 dohc motor was around 180hp, the sohc motor was around 115hp (I think), and with a few mods and a little machine work the dohc quad can make over 200 hp. As for swapping a sohc with a dohc, you will run into some issues, most likely sensors, which is not a big deal. Personally, I'd fix the dohc motor. What's wrong with it?

The Quad 4 was blown sky high then the head pulled and let sit for 2 years. Block is rusted and locked up. The head is cracked. I know the SOHC has nowhere near the gumption of the DOHC, but with my 17 year old daughter learning to drive in it, it's not an issue. You say sensors are different. When I put the two cars side by side, the wiring looks almost identical. The major diffferences I note are the 3 relays between the firewall and passenger side strut mount. All the rest of the electrical hook ups are placed inches different but seem the same. Any ideas on whet the 3 sensors are for? Anything else you think I need to watch for?

Fuel pump relay, AC relay, can't remember off the top of my head the third one. Manual transmissions are different between 93 and 95, but the blocks should be the same. Oil pressure sending unit is the same. Crank position sensor might be in a different place. Wiring to the ignition module might be different, not too sure on that one. ECM might be different as well, I saw different listings based on what motor was in the car. It's not going to be an easy job getting the car running right, never mind the labor involved in doing an engine swap on a quad car as the motor comes out the bottom of the car.

Well, believe it or not, the engine is swapped out. Everything plugged right in from one car to the other except for one module on the intake manifold (1 1/2 x 3 inches with a bolt hole on either end and a vacuum line running straight into the intake). And I took the engine out the top!! WOO HOO! Anyway. It started and ran if I choked the throttle body out (almost completely). And wont run otherwise. Where are these relays? I'll keep all of the quad4 relays that I can. but I'm thinking everything seems too close the same to trade them since the SOHC was running strong before. The car has been sitting 2 years, so I'm thinking maybe bad gas is the culprit? Draining the tank and swapping the fuel filter is next. Advice? Other things I'v etried is swapping out the car computers with the same result. I figured the computers and relays may meld, but to no avail. We'll figure it out tho. Any added help would be gratly appreciated.

Duh....I just figured out the relays you were talking about were the relays I ASKED you about. Stupidity, ONE...Me, ZERO. Any way ....any thoughts on why choking it out is the only way to runit, or is that a sign of the gas being smagma? Thanks for the help.

It sounds like a fuel problem. If you are choking it and it runs that way, its not getting enough fuel. Check the fuel pressure regulator, check the fuel pressure as well. Change the fuel filter. Are you getting a check engine light or service vehicle light?

I yanked the tank and sending unit out of the donor car and changed the filter. Lil sucker purrs like a kitten. For future reference if anyone does this swap, it's almost a 1 for 1 swap with the exception of one module (which really didn't need to be traded, but I did anyway. The car runs great. I appreciate all of your help on this. SUCCESS!!

Addittionally, the '95 upper radiator hose and intake boxes need to be used for this trade. MAN ALIVE, I'm thrilled!! Thanks again for ALL of your help!
