95 Lumina lagging on acceleration

My '95 Lumina is lagging on acceleration. It lags till I get to about 10 mph then zips along just fine. Changed the transmission fluid/filter and it still does it except now you can shift it into 2 or 1 and it works just fine which before any gears would lag. (It's an automatic) No unusual noises or any other symptoms, just this lagging when you're at a stop and you press the gas to go.

Thanks
Diane

Re: 95 Lumina lagging on acceleration

oil and filter not too long ago, not the plugs or fuel filter since I've owned the car which has been 3 years and don't know if previous owner ever had them changed. I'm sure it could use a tune-up, but there is no hesitation with the motor. Has good throttle response and doesn't skip a beat. Engine runs perfect, this problem seems to be in the transmission. When trany fluid was changed there was a piece of rounded metal in there, 1/2 inch wide x 1 1/2 inch long, that looked like a clutch disk. (my brother told me the clutch disk part)

Thanks
Diane

P.S. and the passing gear isn't working

You have something going on in the trans, get it scanned at a trans shop they can command and confirm all solenoids and check for slippage errors.

Eeek.

That's a huge artifact to find in a tranny pan. Post a pic, and I might be able to identify it for you. Clutchpack linings are friction material, like brake pads. That sounds like a piece of a drum, actually, if I'm picturing it right.

chunks in trans pan are BAD, Eeek is right Jeff. If you wouldn't have said that, I'd stick to my original diagnosis that the fact that you are WAY overdue for a tuneup was your hesitation issue. .
