97 2.0L Transporter fuel delivery problems

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the site, just hope someone out there in VW land can help me.

I have been experiencing what seems to be fuel delivery problems through the injectors. Van seems to have a blockage at different stages, drops power, hesitates then clears itself and returns to normal.Idles roughly intermitently, strong smell of burnt fuel seems to follow the van when engine is playing up.

Have had diagnostic testing done with no results not even in the memory, no faults show up.

Have had fuel pressure tested from fuel pump, no varyiation in fuel pressure even when engine appears to be running erratic. This has been going on for over 6 months and mechanics are no closer to finding a solution.

Anyone out there have any ideas,
Morris Sod from downunder

Hi. I have a '91 transporter with similar symptoms. Idles erratically, randomly acts like fuel is running out then perks up and clears. Turns out to be a faulty 'Idle stabilising valve' which needs replacing.
