Tire Size
My 97 Lumina has P215/65R15 95H tires.
Can I replace them with P215/75R15 100S
|

You shouldnt change diameter of your tires idealy, but a little bit doesnt hurt.
Go to : tirerack.com
Look up the stock size, note the diameter/width/revs per mile, etc And compare to the other tire you are considering, keeping dia. in mind, stay close to original size. Going from 65 to 75, i think you will be surprized at the diameter diff.

65's? The stock size for w-bodies are 75's IIRC. Check the sticker on your door to be sure

yeah, 65 ratio to 75 ratio can make a BIG difference in clearance. I had a tire place order the wrong tires for a Cavalier I used to have that i put 16" wheels on. It had 205/55-R16's, they put 205/65-R16's and they rubbed everywhere and the car looked like I was going to take it off-road.

Some, but not all. Mine came with 225/60/16's stock...

I haven't seen one that hasn't come with 75's stock, but i wasn't 100% sure so that's why I added my "check the sticker" failsafe. Good to know though

Yup. that's the LS with alloy wheel tire size. Same as me.
Why do you want 75's? Price? Your speedo is gonna be off, and your off idle acceleration will feel weird to you...

Just wanted to add this, on my 91 4dr. which has 14" wheels, i have used
195x75 (stock size)
195x70
205x70 all 14"
all worked fine, no rubbing and feel was near the same.
tire actual diamater can be different than what you would expect from 2 very close numbers (sorta)
example, my 195x70's and my 205x70's are only about 1/2" diff. in height
But on my Z24 i have 215x60x14's they are like 3 inches smaller in height than a 205x70x14
People seem to have a tendency to think a 215 would be BIGGER than 205, it can be, but depends on if its a 60-65-70 etc and you must take that into account. Very confusing untill you get into it and learn the differences, then its all clear.

Yeah, I'm sure there is probably a lotta good sites that explain how the numbers relate to height, width and aspect ratio, I'm not gonna try to go into it here. I just wondered why he wanted to change. I'd go with a 70 series rather than a 75 at least, that'll minimize the height change and still have a wider footprint than the 75's. 75's look like pizza cutters anymore, with typical cars running 60's stock now.
When I had my '77 Caprice Estate wagon, I was needing some tires, mine were pretty shabby. My boss got a new Ford F-250, and right away he put 35" tires on it, so his stock 265-75-15's were stacked up in the back of the shop.
He joked one day that I should put 'em on the wagon. The idea intrigued me, so I mounted one up and put it on the front to check clearances on turning and suspension compression. I was suprised that the only possible rub would be with the wheels cut hard in a turn at full suspension compression, which wasn't gonna happen, so I mounted them all up.
God it looked evil  Big old red with woodgrain wagon with blacked out chrome, tinted windows and huge white letter truck tires 
My friends started calling me Mad Max.

Sounds like my redneck neighbors 75 Ford Country Squire wagon. It was Army green with 2-tone woodgrain (it had light oak colored body moulding around the edges and darker walnut like veneer in center. He had glass packs  , air shocks (jacked up to the moon)  , L50-15 rear tires with aluminum slot rims  and a white 5" tall harwood pro-stock hood scoop . Yeah, it was "pretty"

Just keep in mind with changing tire size, it changes your speedo reading which also changes your milage readings. I don't know of a fix for that on OBD 1 cars either...
