Re: Lt1 Tune Up

Yeah i really don't trust anyone but fuck i heard it's a bitch to tune a lt1 up. I really don't want to deal with the headache, and plus they have to remove the waterpump to change my cap and rotor.

Cap and Rotor, I thought it was an optispark unit? A LT1 does not have a traditional cap and rotor?, does it? Or am I just an idiot?

Re: Lt1 Tune Up

AC 41-906 spark plugs - $8 each.

Packard 8mm ignition wire set (GM 12096437) - $91.90.

Borg Warner C400 Distributor cap and rotor kit - $139.99

Feeling of improved mileage, emissions, and performance without spending $800 in labor - Priceless.

Yes, the LT1 does have a cap and rotor:

Yes, that's how they fail.

Yes, it IS an OptiSpark unit.

Traditional? In terms of it looking like this...

...No, it isn't "traditional." It serves the "traditional" function of pointing the spark at the correct terminal at the correct time, even it it doesn't look like what we have as a concept of a distributor.

We're all "idiots" at times. I bought a Toyota once. See?

The purpose here is to share the experience we may have inadvertently gathered through our episodes of idiocy, or sometimes even through good luck and planning.

Pepboys sucks. Don't trust them, they know nothing. They require very little training before they start letting them tinker under your hood. I was shocked at just how ignorant they were when I brought my car to a local one near me for a alignment and they wouldn't align my car cause my engine was modified

Re: Lt1 Tune Up

While on the note, since we can't realistically perform an alignment ourselves (unless you have a Hunter rack hiding in garage) we have to submit to letting someone else do it.

I shopped around for 3 hours between shops, and finally found the one that I wanted. How? before anyone ever asked for keys or why I felt I needed an alignment, the service writer/mgr went out in to the lot and visually inspected tire wear as well getting his hands dirty feeling across the tread pattern to confirm that my struts were weak and causing the problem. That is good old fashoned mechanics boys and girls. .

And how in the word Pepboys maages to stay in business is beyond me.
