4th Gear

My car hasn't been able to get into 4th gear when its going fast since the day I bought it. My first race I was doing 120 and it wouldn't go into 4th until I let off and slowed down to about 80mph. It also had the same problem when I was at the track. I does go into 4th when I am just crusing around, any ideas?

Re: 4th Gear

The TV (throttle valve) cable going to the transmission may be slightly out of adjustment. If it has different size tires than original it may be affecting the governor/TV pressures. If you know how to adjust the TV cable you may be able to tweak it to get the response you want. It should be mounted on the throttle body, when the accelerator pulls it open it will pull the cable also. There is a button or plunger on the TV cable to release it. Push it in and push the slider (where the cable comes out) all the way in. With the car off, push the gas pedal ALL THE WAY to the floor. That will adjust the TV cable out. If it still shifts too high you can push the release and adjust the slider out a click at a time to get the shifts lower. BE CAREFUL! If you adjust it out too much it will shift early and burn the clutches!
