Angry brake lights 98 gmc 1/2 ton

I am having brakelight problems on my 98 Gmc pickup. The lights started out just making a quick flash when the brake peddle was pressed then the lights would go out. I have checked all fuses that I know of, check all bulbs, replaced the brake switch under the brake peddle , and now have changed the brake lamp relay under the hood. I now get not lights from the brakes. I have all others turn signals, hazzards, headlights, parking lights all these work. CAN ANYONE HELP WITH MESS

Back track to the point where you had a "flash" and that's where your problem is.

You need to replace the connector plates. You can pick them up at your local parts store or the dealer. They are the white plastic piece that your bulbs are pluged in to.

I have put the old brake switch back in and I do not even get the flash anymore. If I replace the white pieces that hold the bulbs that will fix the problem? Do I have to buy the whole board in the brake lamps?

if you have signals then the problem is not at the tail lights. check the wiring going to your signal switch. the brake power goes through the switch, so that when you turn on the signal and step on the brake the bulb will still flash. there is also a separate power for the signals.

I have replaced everything from brake switch, fuses, bulbs everything. So your telling me that the signal switch in the steering column could be the problem? I guess that is all I have left to replace. thanks for all the info.
