replacing wheel studs...

well I was messing around yesterday and went to remove my lugs on my ride to switch rims and the nuts were really hard to remove and upon torquing them I wrung off 3 of them and I think striped out 1 stud completely.

The only real ? i have here is how hard is it to replace a stud? any info or link on a DIY for this would be great. I have a Haynes/Chilton Manual but haven't looked at it yet I figured I would ask here first before I found that...

Thanks for looking and info will be greatly appreciated....:frog: :frog:

Well, did you strip the torque off the lugs on te front or rear wheel on the right side. If it was the rear wheel, you're a lucky mofo cause the front is a little more complicated to do right.

Anyways hopefully its on the rear and this will solve your problem.

First thing you do is pop off your wheel wheel and remove the center cap with a flathead screwdriver and a mallet. You'll need a socket and a large breaker bar to break loose the retaining nut. I think it's a 32mm or something around there that you need. I'll have to check my toolbox for the exact size on the one I have. Anyways once you have that off, the rear hub can sldie right off and you can tap out the old studs and tap in new ones with replacements from your local automotoive store.

When reassembling, remember to use new grease on the bearing and tighten the retaining nut to the same position, noting the location of the locking depression. Of couse tap it back in when you're done so it doesn't back off over time and put your wheel back on with new lugs.

If it turns out you need help with the front instead, just say the word.

Later.

there should be a little notch in the hub so you can pound out the stud without removing anything but the rotor and caliper bracket. ive changed 3 of them on my civic and never took anything but that off. it will barely clear but it will only thing your might have to do is put it in neutral and spin the stud to the front.

front is easy
back is easier

the front studs have to be shaved until the one side of the oval is flush against the threads
