Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
The easiset way is to get a Helm's manual for your car, and it will walk you through it.
On the other hand, it's pretty easy to do anyway, and I've heard good things about ractive. Brand names in import equipment are like brand names in clothing. The stuff is always more expensive than off brands, but you can't always tell the difference in performance, if there is any. Your mileage may vary.
I assume you have an Integra. Here is how I remember it on my 94 Integra LS. You need to unscrew the shift knob, jack one side of the car up, use jack stands, trace where your shift linkage meets your shifter, unscrew the nuts and bolts connecting them, and the old one should pull right out. Insert the new one, reconnect the nuts and bolts, screw your shift knob onto new shifter, drop your car back on the ground, and give er a test drive.

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
Yeah, the linkage is 2 rods that run from the transmission to your shifter. You can see it plain as day under the middle of your car. You'll be working directly under where you see the stickshift in the cab.

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
its an easy install if you have a lift or someway to get underneath your car easily. I used a lift when i pulled my tranny on my GSR....you have to pull the shift linkage and when you're using a lift its all right there for you. Its probably an hour at most w/ a lift, but if you're stuck using floor jacks, it will take a little longer.
One thing, i dont know if you need to or not, but if you have to pull the shift linkage off entirely, there is a pin where the linkage attaches to the tranny....you have to center punch it out carefully and partially press it back in.........saves time for sure!!

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
so....not so easy, lol we put it in today and the bottem of the shifter tht connects to the linkage is too skinny and there is extra space between the sifter and the linkage! and now because the part of the shifter tht comes out the bottem of the car is longer thn stock, the linkage scrapes on the heat sheild for the exhaust, so were shavin the sheild down tomorrow and tryint to put some bushings to get rid of empty space. but all tht bad stuff aside, really short throw, needs gettin used to tho, hard to find gears cause there so close!! lol thanks for all the help tho, it really did help!

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
Wow, that sucks about it not fitting right. I'd ask the person you bought it from, if they forgot to give you a bushing or something. Can you maybe take the heatshield off, and pound a trench just deep enough into it, so your shifter doesn't scrape it? Shaving a chunk out of it, might allow whatever it's protecting, to be damaged. Just a thought. Good luck either way, and glad I could help.

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
cheap brand shifters does matter. One day if yu try to shift hard, the cheap brand will break on you. Ive heard lots of horror stories about some ebay short shifters breaking on people when they were shifting hard.

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
Did you have to remove that pin where the linkage connects to the gear box?

Re: Urgent!! Short Throw Shifter Install
hey kyle, spell check.
anyway, there should be rubber bushings on either side of the short shifter where it connects...that way it isnt metal on metal and wont wear as fast.
