Unhappy replaced rear sway bar bushings on 1990 Camry. Clunking sound is 90 % gone.

Hello,
Today I replaced the rear sway bar bushings on my girlfriends 1990 Camry. the car had a bad clunking noise coming from the rear of the car. I did a search of the forum and found out the bushings are usually the cause of the noise. I removed the old bushings and cleaned up the bushing brackets and the sway bar where the bushings attatch. first with a wire brush, then with one of those green pads that is used to scrub dishes. I lubricated the bushings with vegetable oil before I installed them. I took the car for a drive and most of the clunking noise was gone. once the new bushings were installed I noticed I could still move the swaybar somewhat even with the brand new bushings. could the bushings I bought be the wrong size? I bought the bushings at advanced auto. the name brand is TRW # HB1828. On the box it says front end bushings.

the car was manufactured in June of 1990 and was made/assembled in america. I don't know if this makes a difference or not. if anyone can shed some light on this situation I would appreciate it.Thank You.

Regards,

Sorry, I can't help with the part number but I had a similiar problem with noise in the rear of my 98. Read the attached link to a post I made on another forum for an explanation to my final fix. It may help you:

I bet the front sway bar is a larger diameter (since the front is heavier than the rear) than the rear sway bar. Return them and get the correct part. There should be no play in the sway bar.
