Tranny slippage?

Two questions:
  1. When the vehicle is going from second to third (automatic) the RPM's climb from 2X to almost 3X before it catches and moves. Seems like slippage but I haven't had the vehicle long and haven't driven an automatic in years so I don't know if that is a normal amount of RPM's at shift. Fluid level is OK on the tranny dipstick....
  2. I also let my vehicle sit for a week and noticed a red/clear leak coming from the back of the engine and dripping on the ground. I say red/clear because at first glance it looked like water but up against white paper it looks a liitle redish. Any connections at the rear of the engine that may be causing this problem? I haven't been able to pin-point it because of my large head not fitting under the car and the garage jack holding up the motorcycle.
The thing I don't want to hear is they are related to a bigger problem but I am already resigned to that fact if true and will bring it to a shop for further investigation. Thanks in advance for the help!

Check the trans fluid, warmed up in park before you do anything.
