Unhappy Auto & tip shifts n gear, but car won't move

hey er'body, have a 99 1.8t gls, w/130k miles. just had the engine rebuilt, and tranny serviced. car has been sitting for a while(8 mos). Also, put a new battery in - did a relearn by pressing the brake pedal while battery was disconnected. Engine sounds great now after the seafoam was put in.

i put the trans in gear and the car didn't move, felt like it was in neutral for every gear. Even on the tip side.

gear indicator was working for both auto and tiptronic sides.

Dealer said, it could be tip switch...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the code was p1744 which was the tip switch is this why the car won't move or could it be something else? thank you in advance, joe

forgot to add: tip switch code has 18152 p1744 035 - short ckt 2 gnd, also the brake light switch gave a code: 00526 027 - implausible signal. thank you.

Re: Auto & tip shifts n gear, but car won't move

you need a new brake light switch

Also since it sat for a long time, the fluid is all at the bottom of the pan and not on the clutches...just needs to circulate once it gets into gear.

Re: Auto & tip shifts n gear, but car won't move

thank you vee dub. i didn't mention this, because I didn't know, but the tech who rebuilt my engine spilled almost, if not all the fluid out of the tranny. so i needed to have the tranny service done. that was a bunch of money. Well, after that they said it wouldn't move, because there was a spill over the shifter location - seems like a bad spot for cup holders if vw has a icb right under it. well, is that correct? wouldn't there be other symptoms if the ckt board was fried?
