Re: Brake Lights

You have a bad ground. When you step on the brake, the ground is being hi-jacked through the turn signal element (path of least resistence) It's not an uncommon problem, but you're throwing me off with the cruise control... On second thought, check the turn signal switch. Brake lights and turn signals both run through this switch. Brakes turn off the cruise control... see where I'm going with this?

Re: Brake Lights

I agree with the ground problem but maybe the bad connection is at the light. Yes, ANY power at the brake light circuit will kick off the cruise control so logically; if the turn signal is backfeeding power to the brake cicuit, it will kick off the cruise. You might try a quick test ... just take a wire and wedge it between the bulb and socket (careful not to short out the base of the bulb) and connect the other end to a good ground. If that fixes it, trace out the ground. Note, sometimes a ground will check with a meter but fail under higher loads.
