I am wondering if the fuel filter should be changed on my car and/or the distributor cap at 114,000 mi.? Occassionally the car won't start until 3-5 cranks and a couple pumps of the gas peddle. How do you check/change the distributor cap and can I easily change the fuel filter if necessary?:banghead:

The timing belt and water pump were changed once at 55,000 mi. and both again at approx. 104,000 mi. The second replacement was due to a bad/defective water pump. Unrelated to the current issue, I am hearing the same noise I heard just before the second water pump was replaced and it has been only 10,000 miles!

Anyway, this car doesn't have a distr. cap? No points to replace? I guess that is a good thing.

Is the fuel filter something I can replace on my own with very limited mechanical experience or should I take it in?

What is the 'ect'?

Thanks.

fuel filter is fairly simple on fwd. 4-motion is not as easy.

ect= engine coolant temperature sensor. somewhat difficult on v6 to replace but with time and small hands you could do it. (on back on engine between engine and firewall)

Is there a website or narrative directions you could give me to help me replace my fuel filter on my fwd Passat? I have never done this before. Thanks.
