1999 Passat V6 - 114,000 mi.ghite 03-18-2006, 09:51 PM I am wondering if the fuel filter should be changed on my car and/or the distributor cap at 114,000 mi.? Occassionally the car won't start until 3-5 cranks and a couple pumps of the gas peddle. How do you check/change the distributor cap and can I easily change the fuel filter if necessary?:banghead: veedubmechanic 03-21-2006, 12:10 PM fuel filter every 30-40k miles. there is no dist. cap Have the t-belt/tensioners/ w-pump changed recently? how bout the ect? ghite 03-21-2006, 12:48 PM The timing belt and water pump were changed once at 55,000 mi. and both again at approx. 104,000 mi. The second replacement was due to a bad/defective water pump. Unrelated to the current issue, I am hearing the same noise I heard just before the second water pump was replaced and it has been only 10,000 miles! Anyway, this car doesn't have a distr. cap? No points to replace? I guess that is a good thing. Is the fuel filter something I can replace on my own with very limited mechanical experience or should I take it in? What is the 'ect'? Thanks. veedubmechanic 03-27-2006, 11:46 PM fuel filter is fairly simple on fwd. 4-motion is not as easy. ect= engine coolant temperature sensor. somewhat difficult on v6 to replace but with time and small hands you could do it. (on back on engine between engine and firewall) ghite 03-28-2006, 01:21 AM Is there a website or narrative directions you could give me to help me replace my fuel filter on my fwd Passat? I have never done this before. Thanks. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
