2005 Passat Alarm Disable Question

I own a 2005 Passat which so far (10k Mi) is running great but the dinging mechanism is driving me nutty. It dings for the seat belts, the lights left on, the trunk being ajar, the temperature going from 40 to 39, etc, etc.
I know that the electronic dinger is buried in the steeering column and nothing on the fuse panel directly affects the dinging function (I think?). Is there a decent electrical schematic out there for the 2005? Another question, if one cuts the wiring harness on the seat belt recepticle will the dinger go off always (fail open) or never (fail short)? I would like to disable this, I use my seatbelt but I don't need the constant reminder when sitting in my parked car! Thanks

Re: 2005 Passat Alarm Disable Question

Dude, trust me. The new VW vehicles totally suck electrically and you don't just want to start screwing with things. I had a guy in the shop with a new Jetta. The ck engine light was on before we installed a small subwoofer to the stock radio. The guy said it was something with the fuel system and has been on since he bought it.

Later on, he came in asking questions about if we'd refund his money and things about his warranty. Come to find out the dealer said they finally figured out the problem and it was the subwoofer!!! Luckily the guy finally got it straightened out but it was messy for a while.

Re: 2005 Passat Alarm Disable Question

Thanks for your responses about the airbag and the good advice about not doing anything drastic. I wasn't even thinking about the airbag.....
Is there an electronics schematic available for the 2005 somewhere yet? Are all these warnings and functions encoded on an EPROM?
