Help with RB20DET malfunctionDark_Shark 07-06-2002, 04:03 AM Sorry for my bad english... So... My engine head gasket get a hole from 5 cylinder and 6 cylinder towards cooling channels (duct) so coolant geting into cyliders. I changed 2 gaskets and block head - and problem still exist. In Russia is very little information about this car :( and I don't know exactly if we use a right head gasket (may be it's suits only for non-turbo engines), I used head bolts which was not new :(. This are two reasons which can produce the problem. If there's something else what I don't know what can cause above problem ? (Except bend of block head surface which I have tested) Thank you. Doughnutdemon 07-23-2002, 02:20 PM Can't really help much, except that the head might be warped (bent). Otherwise use new bolts, as the old ones might be stretched and not giving you the right tension. Forsteen 02-06-2003, 08:59 AM I can't solve your problem, but if you really want to know more go here and purchase an engine manual. These guys are the only ones translating from the Japanese manuals. http://www.jpnz.co.nz (http://www.jpnz.co.nz/xcart/customer/home.php?cat=16) Moppie 04-30-2003, 07:40 AM Sounds like your not Torqueing the head down properly, either not evenly, or not to the right spec. Im afriad I cant help much more than that as I have no idea what the correct torque should be, or what the correct pattern should be. SkylineUSA 04-30-2003, 12:13 PM I agree with moppie. What is your torque sequence. You sound like you know what your are doing, but you never know? When I torque, inside out, and cross. I go from 20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs, 50, lbs, 60lbs. Not sure what the final torque numbers are for the RB20. Other than making sure your block and head are completely straight, and your torqueing the head right, it would have to be the head gasket you are using. Are you getting your head gaskets from Japan?
