oil on spark plugsphisigbrotha 03-16-2006, 02:50 AM heres my main problem. ive noticed on some start ups i blow a little blew smoke (probably valve seals). i recently replaced spark plugs/ pcv valve/ air filter and oil and filter. when i removed the spark plugs i noticed a good amount of oil on each spark plug (top and threads). now i know this means i need to replaced the valve cover gasket and make sure its torqued down right, but is it possible the oil is leaking through and making its way to the combustion chamber? the car will be replaced soon for an 06 acura tsx and i wanna make sure its running its best at time of trade in. luther Toysrme 03-16-2006, 05:22 AM If you get oil on top of the plug it's not the valve cover gasket. It's the spark plug gasket. Replace them. Might as well do the valve cover gaskets too. No, the oil is not going to pass the spark plug & drop into the cylinder. You've still got bad valve stem seals. Mike Gerber 03-16-2006, 03:42 PM As long as you are going to trade this car shortly, I would first try tightening the 30MM nuts under the spark plug wires to 21 foot lbs with a torque wrench. These nuts hold the spark plug tubes and their seals firmly against the cam cover. I would do this in 3 passes; 7 foot lbs. 14 foot lbs. and finally 21 foot lbs. Sometimes retightening them to spec alone eliminates the oil from getting down in the wells and on the plugs. If this doesn't solve the problem I would then go ahead and replace the cam cover gasket as Toysrme suggested. Mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
