Incorrect fuel gauge.

Hi all:
I have camry 89 v4 with 79k miles which was recently purchased. The fuel gauge goes to empty only after driving 300 highway miles. At first startup needle is on quarter but suddenly drops to second quart. Car runs fine. Any suggestions? Do i have to replace fuel pump or thier is a fuel sending unit which needs to replace?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Incorrect fuel gauge.

There is no problem with the fuel pump. The problem probably lies in the sending unit. Before doing anything else I would trace the wiring to the sending unit and look for frayed wires and also try to clean up the ground wire, if you can find it.

By the way, you have an I4 (Inline 4), not a V4.
