05-06 Tacoma ?'s

Well, i'm looking into getting a Black 05-06 Tacoma 4x2 Standard 5spd.

I need to know any info you can give me about them. Such as insurance, quality, fun factor, etc...

I test drove an automatic, and it was ok... but i assume the 5spd has more torque?

Thanks in Advanced

Re: 05-06 Tacoma ?'s

I'm also looking at buying an '06 Tacoma (V6 4WD CrewCab). I'm wondering if I should go with the 5spd-auto, or the 6spd-manual. Originally, I was set on the 6spd-manual, but after reading some reviews, it "seems" that the manual tranny isn't what's cracked up to be.

One review said that it doesn't get anymore MPG than the auto. In fact, it says you slightly loose some. Another said the that it "is still vague through the gears" (Whatever that means). And lastly, I read that the Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) are only available on the auto tranny. But I don't know what these things really do for me other than that they seem "cool" to have.

Has anyone bought either and wished they bought the other??

Lastly, does any know whether the body-style is going to change soon, like for the 07 model or 08??

Re: 05-06 Tacoma ?'s

i have a 98 tacoma 4x4 standard cab with a 5spd, and i love it! great power for a 4banger.

but the 06 4banger i drove that was automatic didn't seem to have a lot of power, maybe because i wasn't trying. But ill be getting the 5spd no matter what, from my experiance from my '98.

as for the HAC and DAC, im guessing they just control the rev's when going up/downhill. im pretty sure riding lawnmowers have DAC. when you take your foot off the gas, you dont build momentum going down the hill, it just goes down at a constant speed. (at least in the mower i have)

HAC probably has like a "roll-back" prevention. so when your stopped on a hill, and take your foot off the break, you dont roll back. This is just a logical guess though.

ya, im pretty sure i can afford the car payments, but i dont know what insurance will be.

Your best source for finding insurance premiums is to check with your local agent. Insurance rates vary in different regions. Your driving record and age will also affect the premiums in most locations.

And to add to what Clifton said........most people don't realize that your insurance premiums are also based on your credit report!
