idle speed is 600rpm...is this normal for automatic?

Like the subject says, the car idles (in park and at stops) at 600rpm. This seems a little low, is it? Nothing else is wrong. It is a 2001 cavalier 2.2 with 4 speed auto.

Thats about normal... manuals idle higher around 800-900rpms. Mines around 650-700 according to my autometer tach... but its hard to tell due to my motor mounts which cause the needle to shudder still...

Most likely because it isn't revving high enough to run the alt at full power hence the lights dimming because there isnt enough power to run them fully.

A good thing about them idling low is that its better fuel economy when idling and letting it sit etc. Con= Worse launching.
