Unhappy tach problem

i have a 1992 camry. the other day i washed the motor and sense then the tach hasnot been working right reading anything it wants from 500 to 8000 rpms when car is at idle if i press the gass the car just dies, then after a wile the tach works and the car will run fine. took off the cap and dried with electrical cleaner no diffrence. Is ther a sensor that controals the tach and other things. thanks derek

Re: tach problem

The tachometer signal is generated by the igniter. On a V6 engine it sits on a bracket near the brake master cylinder. Not sure where it is on a I4 engine.
