98 Camry - Bottoming Out !

Hello,

I just purchased a 98 Camry, 2.2L LE, and cant figure out if this is normal. It has 138,000 miles on it and runs great. My question is, do these cars bottom out all the time or is there something worn out? The suspension feels a little sloppy. With 4 people in it, the car definately bottoms out on almost every bump or driveway that has a incline or decline to it. When only 2 people are in the car, it doesnt do it everytime but I have to be extremely careful to not bottom out. I am concerned because I looked under the car and there is no skid plate and the muffler looks like it may be taking a beating. Is there anything to help the bottoming out situation. I dont want to damage anything. Thanks.

Re: 98 Camry - Bottoming Out !

It's time for a new set of struts. My 96 Camry did the same thing, untill I replaced my struts. It's up to you if you want to go with factory parts or aftermarket. The least expensive solution would be going to your local Sears automotive department. I think they only carry Monroe brand struts. Monroe is good for keeping factory perfomance, if you're not into lowering the ride height, or improving high speed cornering, ect.. If you are into that, then you should look for either KYB or Tokico struts, and combine those with Eibach springs. Since you have a 98 Camry, there might be TRD performance struts available from Toyota for you car. Whatever you decide, it is time to replace your struts.
