Blower only works in 3rd and 4th positions
Hello,
2002 2.2L 4 cyl automatic Cavalier. The blower motor only works in the 3rd and 4th positions. Anyone experience this problem? Thanks in advance.

Re: Blower only works in 3rd and 4th positions
lol, atleast you have 3 and 4, i only have 4 and 1 & 2 are pretty worthless anyway, but if you must have them, there is some sort of resistor board under the passenger side dash that will need replacing.

You need to replace your blower motor resistor. Go here https://www.rockauto.com/applet3.html

Re: Blower only works in 3rd and 4th positions
Did it last year to my Daughter's car. Took a little over an hour to do. Removed the passenger seat so I could get up under the dash confortably. The part cost $28.00 at a local Car Quest, Auto Zone's supplier discontinued there's, and Advance auto parts needs 3 days to get the part shipped. The p/n generic number is RU44 (Advance Auto,Car Quest, Kragen, Parts America ).
You remove the lower dash panel cover (under the glove box), remove the blower fan(3 screws and a connector), then the resistance unit(2 screws and a connector). You will have to be quite nimble, almost a contortionist, to get at the back screw of the resistance unit, a long needle nose pliers did the trick for me.

I`m not Mike but it is the BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR that is giving you the grief, Simple D.I Y repair job. Go buy the part then look up under dash on passenger side. It is behind the blower motor, you will see the electrical plug there

Re: Blower only works in 3rd and 4th positions
Changed the blower motor resistor and all is well. Actually purchased the part from the dealership for $32.00 plus tax! The cheapest I found it here (Jacksonville Florida) at any part store was $28.00, but it was a special order item. It took about 45 mins to change. Hope this helps someone.
