The other day I opened the trunk to my wifes grand prix and heard a water sound. I am pretty sure it is coming from inside the spoiler. Is this normal. The only thing I can think of is that it is for wieght. Does anyone have some info on this. I don't want to take the spoiler off, if I don't have to.
It is a common problem. Water and other garbage collects in the area underneath the spoiler and it is not there on purpose for extra weight. Here is a link with the fix.
My 01 GT leaked water into trunk too. I am waiting til this spring to have it fixed as I can't find 6 spare garden hose washers (nobody is selling them in winter).
One post in the attached link mentioned "rubber grommets" from Home Depot or Lowe. Anyone know what department in Home Deport that I can find these "rubber grommets"?
How exactly to take off the spoiler? Do I use 10mm wrench on the nut alone? Or find a torx socket on the smaller stud?
When I unscrewed 1 nut with a 10mm wrench, both the nut & stud turned in together. I didn't want to go on as I am afriad that I might break some plastic clip inside the spoiler.

It depends. On some spoilers, simply removing the 10mm nut works for all studs. However, you may encounter a few where the torque star bolt/stud will spin so just use a torque star allen to hold it. Either way the nuts have to be removed to get the spoiler off. When you install the new rubber grommets or washers be sure not to over torque because the new washers will split or get damaged. I took my spoiler off with the help of "external" star socket bit (size: E6; I bought the 7-piece set for $20 at Autozone) to hold the torx studs in place. The bottom 3 bolts I used a 10mm box wrench; the upper 3 bolts I resolved to a GearRachet wrench with 10mm hex bit (it has hole in the center)...
I cleaned the debris off my trunk top tonight. I tore off only small piece of ahesive tape on outer perimeter on both end. Tommorrow I will finish removing the tape or I may just leave them there... The area around the 6 studs are receded so I think any over-sized rubber washer or grommet will do the trick.
I will stop by Home Depot tommorow to see if I can buy the rubber grommets...

Also, the link you posted talked about rust that might be starting in some cars. I can verify that cars are rusting where the spoiler is mounted. Not on the outside but inside the trunk. My sister had an 02 GP which she sold last year and it was starting to rust due the spoiler leaking. It would be worth a look the next time you pop your trunk.
