Question Tacoma engine sputtering

my 99 tacoma 4cyl has started making a ticking noise the last few weeks so yestarday i decided to put some seafoam in a tank of fuel, and clean the throttle body to see if those would help. after completing i drove the truck about thirty miles and it was running very smooth and seemed like the ticking was much less noticeable than before. this morning when i was driving to work the engine was sputtering and backfiring. also the check engine light would come on every now and then. need some input if anyone has some tips. thanks. p.s. my truck has 97k on it.

Re: Tacoma engine sputtering

What is sea-foam. is it compatible with oxygen sensors? Same question on the cleaning solvent used to clean the throttle body. You should look for for compatibility with oxygen sensors when using anything to clean fuel system components.
