tranny problem

hey guys, i am about to buy a camaro it is a 90-92 with the 5.7L in it.... i know nothing about camaros but alot about nissans, anyway, the kid said that the transmission was slipping, and it wouldnt go out of 2nd gear (doesnt shift higher than 2nd).
if i can find out what is wrong i can fix it, but if its cheaper to buy a new transmission and replace it i will do that myself.. what do you guys think is the problem.
thanks guys.

Re: tranny problem

If it's a clutch pack, logic would say reverse is screwd up too. 700r4's are relatively easy to work with. Also, this is a common failure for a 700 that has not had a 'shift kit' installed and constantly driven hard becasue if your at speed and nail the throttle, the factory downshift setting is lousy and tears up the trans.

Re: tranny problem

alright, so if it doesnt go into reverse either, then its the clutch pack, what if it does go into reverse?

Re: tranny problem

Well, like I said, it should experience some sort of slip, but stranger things have happened.
